A day on top of Tuscany

Our itinerary may seem short, but in such a small area Italy offers so much to see and do that one day is perhaps not enough. The first stop is Cortona, a small medieval jewel perched on a hill, offering spectacular views over the Valdichiana. Its cobbled streets and ancient palazzi tell us stories of a glorious past as we lose ourselves in picturesque alleys and squares.

We descend the hill to meet the crystal-clear surface of Lake Trasimento, just over the border with Umbria, to explore the ancient Rocca del Leone, a majestic piece of our town's history that stands watch over the lake and offers a spectacular view from its towers. Finally, amidst dishes highlighting local products and a welcoming atmosphere, we conclude the itinerary with an unforgettable dinner.

An immersion in medieval beauty

First stop in Cortona, a charming medieval town in the hills of Tuscany.With its cobbled streets, ancient Etruscan walls and Renaissance palaces, it is a jewel of architecture and culture perfect for those in search of history and beauty.

Dominated by the Basilica of Santa Margherita and the Medici Fortress, the town offers breathtaking views over the Val di Chiana and the countryside. Our advice? Set your camera to panoramic mode to fully capture the magnificence of the horizon merging with the Tuscan sky.

What to absolutely see around here

After a lunch that satisfied palate and soul, we head to the Rocca del Leone, a majestic fortress overlooking Lake Trasimeno.
We cross the border and take a few steps into Umbria to visit this imposing structure, built in the 13th century, which offers spectacular views of the lake and surrounding hills. Its massive walls and well-preserved towers take us back in time, reminding us of the military and strategic history that characterised Italy at the time. Today, the Rocca is also a venue for cultural events during the fine seasons!

Finally dinner

After exploring the Rocca del Leone and admiring the sunset over Lake Trasimeno, we return to Cortona to end our day with dinner at La Bucaccia restaurant.
Located in the heart of the historic centre, this restaurant is renowned for its traditional Tuscan cuisine, enriched with a modern touch. The menu offers a selection of dishes prepared with high quality local ingredients, accompanied by the lightness of San Benedetto Millennium Water.
