In the sixteenth century Don Ferrante Loffredo, acting as the provincial viceroy of Bari and Terra d'Otranto, built the Castle of Charles V in Monopoli. Its walls now host Relais Don Ferrante.
It is an old powder depot built on the cliffs now spotted by the Fine Arts. On the one side the medieval historical center and narrow streets of the hundred boroughs, on the other side the horizon. Locanda di Don Ferrante is a magical place where dry lime walls stretch out until they dive into the Adriatic Sea.
Inaugurated in 2011, the restaurant welcomes its guests between June and September when it can better present its selection of local delicacies and the extraordinary cellar, allowing everyone to enjoy the suggestive location.
The food lovers can enjoy the cuisine of Apulia on the terrace of Don Ferrante boasting a unique view. Only local produce and innovative preparation techniques are used in the restaurant.
The menu recommended by maître comprises the Adriatic Sea crudités, a ladder of morning catch raw fish, so savory and colorful. Raviolo of Burrata, served with red shrimps of Gallipoli with arugula and lime emulsion, highlights the quality of the local food. The catch of the day, sea bass or sea bream are served grilled or in pizzaiola sauce with capers and tomatoes, to enhance the authentic flavor of the sea. The experience at Don Ferrante concludes with the traditional desserts: you can taste the almonds with chocolate and raspberries, the original semifreddo with celery and lime or the curious Peasant snack made with tomatoes and cheese.
San Benedetto Millennium Water - Antica Fonte della Salute, selected for its extraordinary quality, taste and elegance will accompany the delicacies.
Don Ferrante menu is highly appreciated among foreign tourists traveling to Apulia and Italians seeking to discover the local traditions. A special place where one can live and share special moments for all senses.
