Tignale is an enchanting village located within the Parco Alto Garda Bresciano regional park,
immersed amongst breathtaking views that guarantee a truly thrilling experience to anyone who visits. Tignale is divided into six hamlets, all linked by a panoramic road that crosses a plateau dotted with woods, virgin forests and mountain landscapes, the colours of which provide a stunning contrast with the intense blue of Lake Garda. With the Mediterranean climate and mild temperatures that typify this area, nature provides a bountiful supply of excellent fruit all year round. The landscape is characterised by terracing that blankets the hillsides, where fruit orchards and olive groves grow abundantly. From the latter, Tignale's ancient olive press extracts the excellent Garda PDO extra virgin olive oil.
Tignale's historic centre emanates a special charm thanks to its plethora of winding alleyways and delightful houses with their picturesque stone doorways.
A stroll through the village will undoubtedly lead you to the Santuario della Madonna di Montecastello 17th century parish church, a pilgrimage destination renowned for its artistic and architectural beauty. The position of this sacred building renders it even more breathtaking: the church sits atop a rock formation that towers approximately 700 metres over the lake.
The San Pietro church and the San Giorgio in Varolo archaeological site are also well worth a visit, as are the famous lemon nurseries and splendid caves of the surrounding areas.
Local cuisine, traditional dishes, interesting facts
The highlights of Tignale also include the unique flavours of this area: in Tignale trying 'spongadì', a traditional local dessert, is an absolute must, as is the local wine which goes perfectly with the area's traditional dishes. The excellent food here is always served with a healthy drizzle of the local extra virgin olive oil and a gentle sprinkling of grated truffle, the star of the festival which takes place in Tignale every year, between September and October. It's an opportunity to taste the truffles and organic products of the local area, it's also possible to listen to interesting lectures and go on guided walks during which the techniques for finding truffles are demonstrated.
