Let’s continue our summer-flavored walk along the Sicilian coast that will leave us stunned at the view of San Leone, right on the Agrigento seafront. Caressed by the sea breeze that brings flavors and aromas of the Sicilian cuisine we can enjoy a picture made of thousands of blue water facets.
The magnificent veranda of the traditional trattoria Il Pescatore overlooks this show of lights and colors and welcomes us with its fresh menu based on exquisite local ingredients to be discovered.
We are welcomed by Giuseppe Matracia, a third-generation universal manager of this famous restaurant, who proudly tells us how Il Pescatore has managed to stay on the crest of the restaurant wave for 53 years.
The adventure began with his grandparents, professional fishermen, who took advantage of their knowledge of the sea and fish and challenged a market that, fueled by the economic boom, favored a meat-based diet.
What at the time might have seemed like a gamble, in the end, turned out to be a winning bet, although it is hard to underestimate the contribution of each generation of the family. Il Pescatore teaches us that you can feed on past success yet you need to move forward and innovate while respecting tradition.
We find innovation in every detail, the waterfront outdoor area, and the interiors that bring back the memories of the old trattoria but which are elegantly paired with essential elements and modern-style gourmet dishes.
The raw options are undoubtedly the masterpiece of the restaurant and are loved by the tourists and locals alike who come here from all over the province of Agrigento to savor the real raw fish served at a perfect temperature directly from their well-stocked fish counter kept as a reference to the old trattoria and that could easily compete with a good fish market.
The first courses are also very popular among the guests, especially the sea urchin spaghetti and lobster linguine to be accompanied by a national wine list meticulously devised to match the dishes and enhance any fish cooking style.
Such a restaurant cannot miss San Benedetto Prestige Rose Edition, a symbol of Italian excellence. Chosen precisely for its 0.75L glass-bottle format that elegantly fits into the mise en place. It is the perfect water for a traditional setting that enhances the quality of the ingredients.
On the Agrigento seafront, there is a hidden gem restaurant that has been serving the best of Sicilian cuisine and has been able to maintain the same quality over generations without giving up innovation.
